Description

Seachem Cupramine

is a powerful copper-based treatment designed to effectively eliminate ectoparasites in both freshwater and marine fish, including Oodinium, Cryptocaryon, and Ichthyophthirius. Unlike traditional copper treatments, Cupramine is less toxic, remains in solution, and does not contaminate filter beds, making it a superior choice for aquarium health.

Key Features
  • Effective Copper Treatment: Targets external parasites like Ich and Velvet.
  • Active at Low Concentrations: Remains effective without precipitating out of solution.
  • Reduced Toxicity: Bound on amine, making it safer for fish.
  • Easily Removable: 100% removable using carbon or CupriSorb.

Specifications

  • Volume: 500 mL
  • Final Copper Concentration: 0.5 mg/L (0.25 mg/L for freshwater)
  • Compatibility: Suitable for both freshwater and marine environments

Usage Guide

Before Treatment:
  1. Remove Invertebrates: Invertebrates are highly sensitive to copper; they must be removed from the tank.
  2. Deactivate Equipment: Turn off UV filters, ozone filters, and remove chemical filtration (like MatrixCarbon™ and Purigen™).
  3. Avoid Mixing Medications: Do not use with any other medications or products containing reducing agents.
Treatment Instructions:
  • Initial Dose: Use 20 drops (1 mL) of Cupramine for every 40 L (10.5 US gallons) on the first day. For non-dropper caps, each inner ring equals 1 mL. In freshwater, use half the dose.
  • Maintenance: Wait 48 hours, then repeat the dose. Maintain a copper concentration of 0.5 mg/L for saltwater and 0.25 mg/L for freshwater for 14 days.
  • Testing: Do not redose without testing copper levels (use MultiTest™ Copper). Avoid exceeding 0.6 mg/L copper, even though most fish can tolerate up to 0.8 mg/L.

Complete Treatment: Finish the full treatment duration to ensure all parasites, especially those in cyst form, are eradicated—even if visible signs appear to improve.

After Treatment:
  • Copper Removal: Use carbon or CupriSorb™ to remove Cupramine from the water. Keep the copper-absorbing media in the tank for at least a week after reaching a concentration of zero to ensure complete removal.

Indications

Common Infections Treatable with Cupramine:
  • Ich (Ichthyophthirius/Cryptocaryon): Suggested treatment for 14 days.
  • Velvet (Piscinoodinium/Amyloodinium): Suggested treatment for 14 days.

Both infections often present similar symptoms, so proper identification is crucial before treatment. For any confusion, consult an aquatic vet for guidance.

With Seachem Cupramine, you can confidently tackle ectoparasite outbreaks, ensuring the health and safety of your aquatic community.
