Seachem Matrix

is a high-porosity bio-media designed to provide efficient biological filtration in aquatic environments. It plays a critical role in the removal of nitrogenous waste (ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates) by offering an extensive surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonize. Matrix™ is made of a porous inorganic solid, roughly 10mm in diameter, and each liter of Matrix provides more surface area than conventional plastic bio-media, supporting aerobic bacteria on the external surface and anaerobic bacteria within its internal porous structure.

This dual bacterial colonization helps Matrix™ to remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, making it an all-in-one solution for biological filtration. It is inert, durable, and does not need to be replaced, ensuring long-term usage.

Directions for Use

1. Dosage: Use 250 mL of Matrix for every 200 L (50 US gallons) of water.
2. Placement: Can be placed in any filter, though it is especially effective in canister filters. No filter bag is required due to its large size.
3. Maintenance: Matrix can be rinsed if necessary, and it doesn’t require replacement, as the internal bacteria colonies are protected from most cleaning methods.
4. Compatibility: Can be used with Seachem Stability® to quickly establish biofiltration.

Matrix™ works well in drip tray systems, though Pond Matrix™ is recommended for larger applications.
